I was on the hunt for great piri piri chicken, and although our tour guide had suggested another spot, I stumbled across Restaurante Bonjardim on Yelp. The reviews were mixed, but the photos showed exactly what I was craving—crispy roasted chicken rather than something smothered in sauce—so we decided to give it a try.
We arrived around 9:00 pm, waited briefly for a table, and ordered the chicken, mixed salad, rice, and a half bottle of red wine. We also somehow ended up with creamed spinach, which turned out to be a shockingly delicious addition.
The chicken was perfectly crisp, served with an oil-based piri piri sauce that had great flavor and just the right kick. The rice and salad rounded out the meal beautifully.
All in all, an excellent dinner—and only about $36 USD for everything! If you’re visiting from San Diego (like we were), this is a fantastic restaurant to add to your Lisbon list. Highly recommend!
